Hey Church,
This week I want to talk about God's peace. I am reminded of Moses when God charges him to return to Egypt to lead his people to freedom. Moses pleads with God and says that he should not be the one, that God should choose someone else. Moses says in Exodus 4:10 "Pardon your servant LORD. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue." Then God says in verses 11 and 12: "Who gave humans their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will make you speak and will teach you what to say."
It's easy to view this exchange between God and Moses from our comfortable lives and point out Moses' mistakes but think about what Moses was being charged to do. God asks him to return to the place that he feared most, to the land he remembered as painful, filled with anguish and disappointment. God challenges Moses with the very thing he does not want to face: his fears. Moses is an example to us that a comfortable life doesn't always bring fulfillment and peace. See, before God met him at the burning bush, Moses had a decent life with a wife and children and land, but there was fear deep within him that lingered; a fear that God wanted to expose and watch His son overcome. The Prince of Peace was with Moses every step of his journey. This peace instilled confidence in Moses to face Pharaoh and all of Egypt even when the odds seemed against him. This peace empowered Moses to lead people through an impossible situation because he knew that God was working for him.
God calls us to live more than ordinary lives. He called us to go and be courageous. We, His children, are called to step into the unknown and be led by His Spirit. He promises to never leave us, even when we lack confidence and are filled with fear. I believe that our greatest breakthroughs are blocked by fear; the very same fear that God empowers us to walk through and conquer. Let the Prince of Peace lead you through the fear that has trapped you for too long.
