Eyes On Jesus
Hey Church,
With Halloween (or Follow-ween Jesus) around the corner, I was thinking about Pastor's message about focusing on Jesus. It's essential for aligning ourselves with God's plan. We find fulfilment and joy when we know we're doing God's will, and we stay connected to His leading through His Word and His Spirit and through Prayer. The Bible says that God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. His Word reveals to us the way we should go, and we can pray and ask God for direction and wisdom for whatever we need! If we're finding that we're in the dark, our vision is blurry, our path is treacherous, there's a good chance we've let our light go dim. Our personal time with God is probably lacking, we're not in-tune with His direction.
Of course there are difficult times ahead (count on it!), but staying connected with God is the best thing we can do for all of the spooky (or even downright evil) situations that come our way. When it comes to Halloween, the world likes to highlight the mysterious, the unknown, the dead things on the move, the thunder and lightning, the howling winds, and ghost stories. The world is afraid of those things. I think that's because those things represent power that is beyond their control. But Jesus came with supreme authority and power over all things. Jesus reveals the mysteries of God (Colossians 2:2-3). He tells us to trust Him and not our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
The winds and waves obey Him, yet His voice is like thunder, His Spirit moves like a howling wind, His appearance is like lightning. He causes the dead to rise. And His power is living in us because of the Holy Ghost! So whom shall we really fear? The fallen world full of sin or the creator Himself? God is so powerful, but He also loves us so deeply that He gives us so much grace. So, I pray that the next time we start to focus more on the things of this world, that we course correct quickly. The more we keep Jesus front-and-center, the more he obscure all those other things become. To the world, tunnel vision is usually negative, but God doesn't have tunnel vision. He sees all, and for all time! So we need to stay laser-focused on God, and He will reveal all that we need to see.
