Hey church!
Last week this portion of the Bible has been heavy on my heart. It’s the story of the sacrifice of Isaac.

“After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭1‬-‭2‬
Abraham responded in surrender and obeyed.

“So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭3‬ ‭

He did not even question God. Not once.
We know that Abraham is the father of our faith. I thought it was interesting that He told him to go to the land of Moriah. Moriah means “provided by Yahweh.” So the place that God told him to sacrifice his son was always foreshadowing that God would provide. Abraham knew this. As the story goes on, Abraham makes an interesting statement. “He says to his young men that he and the boy will go and worship and come again to you.” Wow! What faith. He didn’t even doubt that God would provide. He also claims that God will provide again to his son Isaac.

“And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭6‬-‭8‬

We know what happens in the end, God does in fact provide the sacrifice. A ram caught in the thickets. A picture of Jesus.

This isn’t just a beautiful picture of faith, but also a picture of what the Father has done for us. Giving us His only son whom He loves and giving Him as a sacrifice for us. What a God.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭

Worthy is the Lamb. Let praise the name of the Lord God Almighty and thank Him for all He has provided.
