Hey River!

For the followers of Jesus, after days and days of praying, of waiting on the Lord, suddenly everything changed on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2). One moment the Holy Spirit was suddenly poured out over those praying in the upper room—the next, Peter rushed out to a crowd of mockery and confusion and delivered the first sermon of the post-resurrection church. The Bible says thousands were saved. Thousands

Peter, as he was addressing the crowd (Acts 2:21), references Joel 2:32–““And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” A lot of times when we consider ourselves “saved” we focus on how we’ve been forgiven of our sins. This is absolutely true—the cross paid for every bit of debt our sin has incurred. However, Peter used the Greek word for “saved” which is “sozo”.  “Sozo” is a word without limitations. It means: “to deliver, protect, heal, preserve, to be made whole”.

When we call on the name of the Lord Jesus, not only are our sins forgiven, but we have unlimited access to the Spirit who makes us whole and complete even as we walk the Earth. The name of Jesus is THAT powerful, it is THAT complete and final. When Jesus laid His life down, He paid the full price for each of us. He left absolutely nothing out. We can call on the name of Jesus in every moment of our lives and expect that the Holy Spirit has exactly what we need ready for us in perfect timing. Just as the apostles waited on Him and called on Him in the upper room, so we too can be thoroughly saved, protected, and made whole in His presence, suddenly! That’s the kind of life our Father paid for!
