River Church,
Pastor has been talking about the importance of the Word of God in our lives. It is a horrible statistic but the Bible remains one the all-time best sellers but among the least read. We have so many bible apps and study tools it leaves us with little excuse as to why we don't read and study the Bible more. The writer of Hebrews chastised some Christians that were not growing in discipleship as they should: Hebrews 5:12 "By now you should be teachers. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the first things you need to know from God’s Word. You still need milk instead of solid food." As Christians today we have to ask ourselves if we also are falling into this pattern and trap. Many of us just skim to our favorite verses and skip over the meat of what God wants to teach us. We like dessert passages and pass over the "broccoli" of God's Word that truly nourishes us.
We as a nation can certainly relate to food issues. We are a nation of abundance and excess. But with access to all this food what do we chase after the most? We would rather get the fast-food and desserts and skip over the nutritional meals we need to grow and stay healthy. We are overfed and undernourished. I believe much of the church today falls into this pattern and we have to make sure that we spend time at the buffet of God's Word. Let's dust off those Bibles, download a daily reading app for the Bible, start digging a little deeper into the culture and context of when the Bible was written. Never before in the history of mankind have we had so much access to the Word. Luke 12:48b "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."
