Happy February, River! 

"For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come." (2 Corinthians 1:20-22)

There is a reason we look to this verse so often—how many seasons have we needed the reassurance that His promises are true, no exceptions? Every single promise He has ever made, according to this verse, must be a "yes" to us.  Because of the blood of Christ, because of His resurrection, God has made available to us every "yes" we will ever need.  He doesn't run out of them—if He promised it, it must be true.  

What is really speaking to me about the verse above, though, is how powerful He allows our simple "Amen" to become.  He gave us, with His Spirit filling our hearts, the ability to agree with Him. Our "Amen", our "so be it" becomes the access point of where His promises touch, change, and breathe life into our world.   Verse 22 says that He gave us His Spirit to guarantee what is going to happen.  That means the promises are final, complete, and unchanging.  His Spirit inside of you is the greatest "deposit", the greatest evidence that there is more to our lives than what our human eyes can see. "Deposit" means there is more to come.  Somehow God gave us His very Spirit and yet there is more? Come on, you can't get a better guarantee than that.  How beautiful, how generous our Father is—God desires our participation in His will so much that He gives Himself into each of our hearts so the "Amen" on our lips would be the very opportunity for Heaven to invade Earth.  We speak "Amen", we declare "so be it" to His promises and this world has to bend to His will.  And it brings Him glory! To every promise, then, we must declare: "So be it, God!"
